11th Annual Día de los Muertos Festival
We look forward to celebrating the art of life, faith and remembrance during our annual Día de los Muertos event on Sunday, Nov. 3, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Basilica Plaza. Below are the event details:
Event Schedule:
11 a.m. | Festival begins
11:30 a.m. | Día de los Muertos Mass
12:30 p.m. | Community Procession with Aztec Dancers, Blessing of the Ofrendas
(Altars), Release of Monarch Butterflies and Taps with American Legion Post 41. The procession will exit the church, head east (on the sidewalk) to Third Street, turn north to Van Buren and then proceed through the “metal doors”/arch along Van Buren into the grassy area/fountains, finally ending up in front of the Main Stage.
1 – 2 p.m. | Mariachi Continental Azteca
1 p.m. | Piñata for Kids
2- 3 p.m. | Ballet Folklorico Quetzalli – AZ
3 p.m. | Piñata for Kids
3 – 5 p.m. | Rhythm Edition
3:50 – 4 p.m. Announce winners: Car Show and 50/50 Raffle
5 p.m. | Closing Ceremony and Blessing
ALL DAY: Artisan Mercado, Children’s Activities, Face Painting, Car Show and Food Trucks
Community Ofrenda:
This community ofrenda is a vibrant and sacred space for remembrance and celebration. Free 5×7 paper frames will be available for copied photos of your loved ones to place on the altar. (Unlit) candles also will be available for purchase for $5 each.
T-Shirts and Stickers:
Dia de los Muertos T-shirts with this year’s themed logo are available for purchase. Regular sizes (S, M, L and XL) are $30 and extended sizes are $35 each. Stickers featuring the themed logo are available for $5 each.
50/50 Raffle:
Try your luck and enter to win the 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Proceeds benefit the St. Mary’s Basilica Church Restoration
Parking:
Free parking is available in the Phoenix Diosean parking garage located on 5th Street between Van Buren and Monroe streets. Parking fills up quickly for Mass, but there also are several parking garages within walking distance, including the Sheraton Grand Downtown Phoenix, the Sheraton Grand Valet Garage, and the Arizona Center Garage.
Admission:
The event is free, but donations of non-perishable food items would be greatly appreciated to benefit the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank.
