The Lord Jesus, who went about doing good works and healing sickness and infirmity of every kind, commanded his disciples to care for the sick, to pray for them, and to lay hands on them. St. Mary’s Basilica continues this command through our Ministry to the Sick and Homebound molded after the early Christian community practice of bringing Communion to those who were unable to gather with the community. The assembly prayed for those unable to be present and commissions its members to go forth and bring the Body of Christ to its absent members. In this tradition, when St. Mary’s Basilica ministers brings Communion, the sick or elderly person shares in the Eucharistic meal of the community, and holy Communion manifests the support and concern for its members who are not able to be present. If you are sick or homebound it would be our privilege to share with you holy Communion.
