Serve at André House – A Ministry of Hospitality
André House, located in downtown Phoenix, is a Catholic ministry inspired by the values of the Congregation of Holy Cross. It serves as a House of Hospitality for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty. Volunteers are the heart of this mission, helping to prepare and serve evening meals to hundreds of guests, as well as supporting services like showers, laundry, clothing distribution, and more. Whether you serve once or regularly, your presence brings dignity, compassion, and hope to those most in need. Serving at André House is a powerful way to live out the Gospel call to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and welcome the stranger.

Serve at St. Mary’s Food Bank – Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope
St. Mary’s Food Bank, the world’s first food bank, is a vital ministry in Phoenix dedicated to alleviating hunger and building community. Volunteers play a key role in this mission by helping to pack emergency food boxes, distribute groceries to families in need, and support mobile outreach events. With over 250,000 meals distributed daily, the impact is immense—and every helping hand matters. Whether you’re sorting food, assisting at curbside pickup, or preparing meals for children and seniors, your time brings nourishment and hope to thousands across Arizona
Historical Note: St. Mary’s Church helped John Van Hengel start the food bank in 1967 with a $3,000 loan and use of a vacant church-owned building at 816 S. Central Ave. He named the food bank in recognition of the parish’s support.
